My name is Andrew Merriss and I am a tree-pruner. I am also a tree-selector, tree-planter, tree-climber, and above all, a tree-watcher. Each tree I work on is a chance for me to develop my skills in the realm of aesthetic pruning, and to discern in the tree's trunk, branches, and foliage that which is most beautiful, while meeting the needs of the people who live everyday with that tree.

I have been working in horticulture since 1997. The first trees I worked on were fruit trees on a small community-supported educational farm in the Santa Cruz mountains, a farm called Camp Joy.

In 2006 I began learning how to climb larger trees, pruning them for safety, clearance, health, and good form. Since then I have had the joy of becoming a more devoted aesthetic pruner, taking classes at Merritt College in Oakland, participating in volunteer pruning events, and joining the Aesthetic Pruners Association as a certified member.
